Phagwara: Pvt varsity Sudanese student objects to female friends' harassment, stabbed to death - Hindustan Times

In a tragic incident early Thursday morning in Phagwara, Punjab, two Sudanese students were attacked by fellow university students, resulting in the death of one of them. The attack took place around 4 am in Green Valley near Law Gate, Maheru village — an area with a high population of African international students.

The deceased was identified as 25-year-old Mohammad Wada Bala Yousuf Ahmed, while his friend, 26-year-old Ahmed Mohammad Nour Ahmed Hussen, was critically injured. Hussen, speaking from his hospital bed, informed the police about the six alleged attackers — students from Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar — who were staying as paying guests in the area.

According to the police, the Sudanese students were returning from morning prayers with two Sudanese female students when they encountered a group of Indian men who began harassing the women and asking for their phone numbers. When Ahmed and Hussen intervened, the harassers, allegedly drunk, became violent and stabbed both men multiple times. The attackers fled the scene when a local resident, Prabhat Dubey, came to assist after hearing the screams.

Ahmed was declared dead upon arrival at Johal Hospital in Jalandhar, while Hussen remains in critical condition. Within hours, the accused were apprehended from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, and have been charged with murder, attempted murder, and causing injury under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
